Special Services

To arrange weddings, baptisms etc, or if you would like someone mentioned in our prayers, please call the Vicarage. If you need transport to get to church, please call the Church Warden.

Home Visits

If you would like one of the vicars to call or if you are unable to get out and would like home communion please get in touch with them as above.

Weddings

Our weddings continue into the autumn, and it’s always lovely to welcome families on their special day. If you are interested in getting married at Flitton, call the vicarage to talk it over. If you have some connection with the village you can probably have your wedding in Flitton Church, and even if you have been married before it is often possible – don’t be afraid to ask!

Baptism Window

When visiting the church, maybe you have seen our unique baptism window next to the font. Periodically we arrange for the next set of panes to be engraved, although we are running out of spaces, If one of your family was christened at Flitton Church, even a long time ago, perhaps you might be interested in having a pane engraved to remember the date or maybe to mark a special birthday.

For more details on this, please contact the Church Warden Jo Holt. If you do not know your baptism date, we can look it up for you.

If you are interested or would like to come and see the window, please contact Jo Holt. Alternatively you can have a look if you come to one of our Services, please see Church website for details.

We are always looking for people to help with the work at the Church because we love volunteers Some of the things you help us with are as follows:

  • Help at a Church cleaning or a gardening working party
  • Flower arranging (no skill needed just a few simple flowers in a vase)
  • Joining the bell ringers or the choir
  • Delivering the Flit’n’More magazine quarterly
  • Children reading at services
  • Serving coffee after services
  • Organising a fund-raising event
  • Supporting fund-raising events
  • Financial support through standing order of gift aid envelopes.

Just make contact and why not do it whilst you are thinking about it!

The De Grey Mausoleum Flitton

The De Grey Mausoleum FlittonThe De Grey Mausoleum at the Church (see video) is a hidden gem in the heartlands of rural Bedfordshire. It is in the guardianship of English Heritage and is open to the public, click here to visit the website for opening details or see the Village events calendar.
It is one of the largest sepulchral chapels in the country and is a Grade I listed building. The Mausoleum contains over twenty monuments to the de Grey family who lived in nearby Wrest Park.

The cruciform Mausoleum has its nave set against the north side of the chancel of the church and its south transept overlaps the east end. The oldest part of Mausoleum was built circa 1614, the eastern parts were added in 1705. The architect Edward Shepherd worked on the building during 1739–40.
